Pop-Ups
Food ED brings educational pop ups to school & community events like science/STEAM nights, social-emotional learning (SEL) events, volunteer events, community gatherings, and more. We provide a wide range of engaging learning opportunities!

Please review our broad categories below but note we can be flexible to your event!
Composting
We showcase composting in action and all the steps that go into it. We introduce our compost ambassadors: our decomposer insects! We also provide a variety of materials to teach students how they can compost at home or at one of our community bins.

Native Plants
We highlight the importance of native species to water conservation, supporting local biodiversity, cooling urban spaces, and more. We support creating native gardens by hosting workshops as well as native plant and seed giveaways.

Arbor Day Tree Planting
We guide participants by showing them how to properly plant trees in urban spaces while also emphasizing their role in cooling cities, improving air quality, supporting local wildlife, and more.

Microworld Exploration
With our microscope programming, we are able to focus in on specific anatomical details of native insects, explore the mechanisms of soil health, and dig deeper into a new world of learning.

Compost Ambassadors
We introduce community members to our compost ambassadors: live bugs! We use our decomposers to teach the community about their role in the environment and their importance via handling millipedes, beetles, cockroaches, isopods, and styrafoam eating mealworms!

SEL & Mental Health
We emphasize the importance of connecting with nature in any way that community members have access. For elementary schools, this means providing a safe, accessible space in our garden, even when the gardeners aren't there. By creating other green spaces, we give access to community members to have access to produce, green spaces, and connection with community. We partner with schools and organizations to bridge mental health and wellness events with nature opportunities even indoors!

Pollinators
Pollinators have an important job in our environment- pollination! We emphasize their importance and how to support them via planting native plants and pollinator gardens! With support from our microscope programming, we are able to show community members the differences between pollinators like bees and butterflies and what makes each one so special.

Library Events
We have a variety of educational activities and crafts for all ages that integrate well with library programming and events. Food ED pop ups in libraries have ranged from informational tables to workshops facilitated by our team.
